Review your civilian health insurance, vehicle insurance, and other recurring coverage before leaving. Your military health-care coverage changes when qualifying orders begin, but the exact TRICARE plan for each eligible family member depends on where that person lives. Review the TRICARE question below, verify the enrollment and effective date, and confirm the consequences with the civilian insurer before canceling or pausing any coverage.

Vehicle and other coverage: If your vehicle will not be driven, provide your orders to the insurance company and ask whether the policy can be paused or otherwise reduced. Similar options may apply to other recurring coverage. Contact each company and ask what can be done to reduce your expenses during training.

Before making changes: Confirm the effective dates and consequences with the applicable provider before canceling or changing any coverage.
